The Hog’s Head Inn at Alnwick

The Hog’s Head Inn is named after the tavern in the Harry Potter book and film series and is just a few minutes’ drive from the castle, which doubled as Hogwarts – Alnwick Castle.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was filmed on location at Alnwick Castle in Autumn 2000. The following year, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (the second film in the series) used Alnwick Castle for shooting, too. If you visit the Outer Bailey area, you’ll recognise it as the place where Harry and his fellow students learned to first fly broomsticks with Madam Hooch, and where Harry learned to play the wizarding sport Quidditch.

If you are a big TV fan, you will be delighted to know that the popular ITV detective series Vera has been taking place along the Northumberland coast about 10 miles west of Alnwick. In the TV adaptations of Ann Cleeves’ books, there have been appearances made in a variety of locations from Seahouses to Blyth and the Farne Islands too, so keep your eyes peeled for any special camera equipment when you’re off exploring.

In terms of location and accessibility, the nearest airport is Newcastle International Airport, approximately 25 miles from the property. A full English/Irish breakfast is available each morning at the Hog’s Head Inn and the restaurant itself offers an all-day seasonal menu, which specialises in using local produce whenever possible. Alnwick Castle is within a mile of the inn, which was built in 2012 and is a silver award winner in the North East England Tourism Awards.

For its 2020 Inn Access Statement, The Hog’s Head Inn indicated that our sole aim is to give guests a compelling reason to visit and return. Also, during their stay, we strive to make guests feel as welcome and at home.

To evidence these goals, we have provided a list of things that we have put into place to make the place as accessible as possible. This list includes free designated car park spaces, disabled parking at the front of the inn, a reduced height service counter to the side of the bar and three ground room floors built specifically for wheelchair access – these can be made up to provide single, twin-bedded or double-bedded.

The Lindisfarne Inn at Beal near Holy Island

The Lindisfarne Inn in Beal is award winning and doubles as the nearest pub to Holy Island. If you are looking for somewhere that provides walking and cycling facilities within a distance of both Northumberland and Scotland, this is the place for you.

The nearest airport to The Lindisfarne Inn is Newcastle Airport, which is located approximately 89km from the property. As with all of our inns, breakfast is available each morning and the restaurant offers an all-day seasonal menu, which specialises in using local produce whenever possible.

Our 2020 access statement aims to make sure guests enjoy comfortable facilities and that all their requests are handled efficiently and carried out whenever possible. We offer baby changing facilities in the accessible toilets, permit dogs and make provisions for them in some parts of the inn, and have seating alcoves on the ground floor.

The Commissioners Quay Inn at Blyth

Centrally located on Blyth’s historic quay, The Commissioners Quay Inn is certain to meet your expectations when it comes to food, drink and high-quality accommodation. The development of the harbour has brought in tons of tourism, but nothing is more popular and good at drawing people into the area than the inn. Overlooking River Blyth and the sea, this inn is perfect if you are looking for somewhere to enjoy some calm dining and drinks.

The inn is set in a perfect location. The property is approximately 10 minutes’ walk from the city centre of Blyth and around half an hour’s drive from Hexham. The Blyth Battery War Museum is within 2km of the inn, too, so there certainly is not a lack of things to keep you entertained during your stay in Northumberland.
