Making a splash! The Ripon Inn turns One!

October 16th 2024

A Ripon institution celebrated a successful first year of trading earlier this week as The Ripon Inn turned one year old.

Olympic gold medal-winner Jack Laugher MBE dove inn and officially opened the inn last year and since then the venue has gone from strength to strength, with strong occupancy levels for its rooms and a growing food and beverage trade.

A multi-million-pound project carried out in partnership with Silverstone Building Consultancy and STP Construction, The Ripon Inn was born out of the total renovation of the Ripon Spa Hotel.

Demand for high-quality accommodation in the city has been clearly demonstrated, with more than 20,000 sleepers welcomed into the 56 refurbished bedrooms over the year, equating to 47% of the inn’s trade.

With a “fabulous” grading on Booking.com and 80% of reviews on TripAdvisor rating it as either “excellent” or “very good” the now 56-bedroom property has established itself as a big hit with visitors to Ripon.

The new-look pub has seen brisk trade too, with more than 41,000 meals served and 30,000 pints of the top three beers of choice enjoyed by guests so far.

Fish and Chips have proven to be the most popular dish on the menu with diners, with more than 2,700 potions served over the last 12 months, while Madri has been the tipple of choice, with almost 18,000 pints served of this alone.

With its relaxed environs and expansive gardens providing a place to spend an enjoyable hour or two, cocktails have also proved a hugely popular serving, with 1,360 enjoying them through a popular two-for-£14 promotion.

The dedicated Ale House has established itself too. Building on the reputation of the Turf Tavern, its six-hand pulls make it the ideal spot to enjoy a proper pint of real ale and enjoy live sport.

With a calendar of entertainment including live music on Friday nights and a Tuesday night quiz, alongside a new Sunday Lunch carvery launching in November, the team are out to build on the foundations of their first year.

General manager of The Ripon Inn, Dan Chrisp said: “The Ripon Inn has proven a fantastic addition to The Inn Collection Group and we have grown steadily since Jack dove in to open us last year.

“As we turn one, I’d like to extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone who has come to the inn, whether that was for morning coffee, dinner and drinks or an overnight stay. We are grateful for your custom!

“We’ve built strong relationships within the city and with the racecourse, theatre festival and cathedral in particular and to be the first stop for Ripon Community Poppy Project’s D-Day commemorations was quite special.

“When we relaunched, we said we hoped we had created a welcoming place to enjoy food, drinks and company and I think that has been the case.

“As a team, we’re constantly looking to improve that offering and that has driven things like the development of the Ale House and the Sunday carvery, and we will be looking to further develop in the coming months and years.”
