E-bull-ient new look for historic Beaumaris inn

Revellers choosing to spend Christmas in Beaumaris are in line for an extra treat at The Bull’s Head Inn this December, as owners The Inn Collection Group complete an initial phase of investment at the historic Anglesey pub.

Bought by the Newcastle-based company in November 2022, the works have seen a refresh of a ground floor lounge area and the creation of an additional six bedrooms, boosting the number of guests it is able to welcome just in time for this year’s festive period.

The facelift of the lounge has given a contemporary cosiness to the historic venue, whilst remaining respectful to its 550-year tradition of welcoming visitors to Anglesey.

Retaining at its heart the open fire that has been warming visitors since 1472, the lounge’s wooden floorboards have been refurbished and supplemented with a deep rug, whilst seating options have been enhanced with new chairs and a plush leather bench.

Making use of an unused conference facility in the main building and cottage along Rating Row, the additional bedrooms are comfortably appointed, with feature wallpaper and furnishings creating the look and feel of a traditional inn.

With The Bull offering Christmas staycations for the first time, guests choosing to enjoy Christmas Day lunch as part of a three-day getaway will be amongst the first to sample the new look created by Newcastle-based design studio, BXB Interiors.

Creating a new look that is instantly recognisable to those who have stayed in other properties belonging to The Inn Collection Group, the renovation at the inn gives a glimpse into the future of two other historic North Wales venues.

Aiming to begin early in 2024, Betws-y-Coed’s The Swallow Falls Inn and Llandudno’s St Kilda Hotel will be the next sites of focus for ICG in the region, returning both to trading after long-term closures.

Located close to the spectacular waterfall of the same name on the Afon Llugwy, The Swallow Falls Inn will undergo a full and extensive refurbishment to bring it back to life.

Plans once realised will create a new bar and restaurant, 40 bedrooms and upgraded facilities to the campsite, which will be retained and be the first such offering within the group’s portfolio.

Meanwhile, in the shadow of the Great Orme, the refurbishment of the St Kilda will provide 52 bedrooms as well as a fully refurbished bar and kitchen to bring the group’s award-winning hospitality venue to the famous promenade.

Commenting on the refurbishments, operations manager Joe Lavin said: “We’re delighted to have completed the first programme of refurbishment at such a well-established and much-loved institution and to have that ready in time for Christmas.

“The new look to the lounge has given a nice refresh to the space whilst retaining the open fire’s place as the focal point of the room and returning the shine to the wooden floor, perfect to enjoy during December’s festivities.

“For guests choosing to stay with us, the new bedrooms offer a different look and feel to those elsewhere in the property and I am sure they will be enjoyed by those staying with us for Christmas in Beaumaris.”
