Enjoy a top winter Ambleside wander where You’ll Fit Right Inn.

17th December 2024

With the Christmas holidays fast approaching many families will be getting ready to get all wrapped up to enjoy a Twixmas wander and get out and about into the great outdoors.

Providing inspiration, outdoor experts at Millets have revealed their top 10 walks that end with a pub, with one of their Lake District selections brilliantly served by two of The Inn Collection Group’s Ambleside properties.

The bustling town at the northern end of Windermere is the start of many a fine walk, with the Ambleside to Troutbeck circular picked out as one of the top ten and offering a seven-and-a-half mile trail.

Ideally started from The Ambleside Inn after a hearty breakfast, taking the trail in a clockwise direction gets one of its more challenging sections out of the way early and offers the chance to take in the raw power of Stock Ghyll Force.

After climbing out of the town, the sweeping majesty of the vistas over Windermere and the distant Coniston fells give breathtaking scenery to enjoy whilst the air is fresh on the way to Troutbeck.

Returning via Skelghylle Woods, walkers will come across ‘The Grand Fir', the tallest Grand Fir in England which at 190ft high is taller than Nelson’s Column before completing the walk-through farmland and open hillside and past The Temperance Inn.

And with Winter Breaks available in Ambleside from just £145 between December 29 and January 2, there’s no need to rush your stroll with a cosy overnight halt, complete with dinner awaiting you at the end of the day.

Open all day every day, these inns are ready to welcome you at the start or finish of your festive wanders, with hearty pub fayre menus and delectable drinks to enjoy as part of your day.
